SERVING THE UNIVERSITY
Human resource operations at IU are executed in a highly decentralized model.  IUSM Human Resources (IUSM HR) provides services for professional staff employees within the School.

Services provided by University HR are outlined below:

  • Health & Welfare Benefits, Workers Compensation and Retirement programs
  • HRMS & HR records retention
  • Job postings
  • Training & Organization Design
  • Position grading
SERVING THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
Within the IU School of Medicine, HR provides consulting and coaching as well as high-level assurance with university policies and procedures. HR staffing needs vary based on department size and complexity.  IUSM HR is the primary provider of HR services. 

Within IU School of Medicine, HR staff primarily focus in the following areas:
Talent Acquisition
Compensation Actions
Employee Relations/Engagement
Talent Management & Organizational Design 

HR BUSINESS PARTNERS

HR Business Partners collaborate with the Senior Director of Human Resources while reporting to the department administrator of participating departments. This is primarily to drive consistency in HR process execution. 

HR Business Partners are considered the HR lead for the unit and supports their departments in the following ways:
  • Change management consulting
  • Developing HR strategy to support unit strategy
  • Diagnosing and defining department needs
  • Assessing Employee engagement and culture
  • Managing strategic relationships within the unit and across the university
  • Revewing organization design and development
  • Talent acquisition
  • Talent development
  • Workforce planning

HR Business Partners encourage departments to take accountability for the execution of the following HR-related operations
  • Providing transactional support (edoc processing, posting positions, scheduling interviews, onboarding details, e.g., CrimsonCard)
  • Performing supervisory functions, (e.g., writing position descriptions, administering corrective action)​
