​​​The IU School of Medicine offers many different internal opportunities for postdocs to receive recognition during their service as a postdoc, or provide recognition to others who have made their training experience here successful.  Below are some of the opportunities regularly available to IU School of Medicine postdocs.

 

Postdoc Travel Awards

Travel grants are available to IU School of Medicine postdoctoral trainees who are designated in the IUIE system as a postdoctoral trainee (AC1 or FLP designation). Postdoctoral trainees who DO NOT qualify for this award include those with Research Associate, Visiting Scholar, Assistant Research Professor titles and any other postdoctoral designation not identified above. Prior awardees from the previous award cycle (Nov, April) are also prohibited from applying for the next years’ award cycle (Nov, April).

To apply, interested applicants must submit a completed Application Form. Contact information for the applicant as well as his/ her mentor and HR/Departmental Administrator is required. Applicants must also submit a scientific abstract, a lay abstract, a significance statement, conference details—all signed with the applicant’s digital signature. A scanned and submitted Faculty Mentor Acknowledgement Form must include all necessary signatures.

Applications to cover a conference to be attended between December 1 and May 31 must be submitted by the November 25 by  11:59 pm EST. Applications to cover a conference to be attended between June 1, and November 3 must be submitted by the first Monday in May, at 11:59 pm EST.​

 

Outstanding Postdoc Award

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs annually sponsors the Outstanding Postdoc Award.  This award is designed to recognize and honor the achievements of IUSM postdocs, not only as exceptional researchers, but also as mentors, role models and advocates for fellow postdocs and students at IUSM.

Criteria for Award

  • We expect that IUSM postdocs will be nominated by their PIs, but nominations by others will also be accepted.
  • In addition to the postdoc's research efforts, also describe teaching, outreach, mentoring and service activities. Please be as specific as possible by providing stories and examples.

Eligibility for Award 

  • Only IUSM Postdoctoral Appointees (AC1) and IUSM Postdoctoral Fellows (FLPs) are eligible for this award (not Assistant Research Professors, Research Assistants, Research Associates, etc).
  • Postdoctoral Appointees (AC1) and Postdoctoral Fellows (FLPs) must be in that appointment until at least January 30 of the following calendar year (from the year that they are nominated)

Nominees will be evaluated by a panel of faculty and administrators based upon each's nominee's strengths in research, teaching, outreach, mentoring, and service.  Awards will open late June/early July and close on the fourth Friday of August each year.  Please contact the OPA at postdocs@iupui.edu with any additional questions.

 

Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs annually sponsors the Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award.  This award is designed to recognize and honor outstanding IUSM postdoc faculty mentors, who serve as excellent examples of researchers as well as mentors, role models and advocates for postdocs at the IUSM. The Outstanding Postdoc Mentor serves as an example throughout the university by helping to promote a culture of positive mentorship at IUSM.

Criteria for Award

  • All IUSM postdocs are invited to nominate IUSM faculty mentors for the Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award.
  • Nominations should describe and discuss how the IUSM faculty mentor has supported, encouraged and promoted your professional and personal development as well as your career goals. Within your nomination, please provide specific examples and stories.

Nominees will be evaluated by a panel of postdocs and Graduate Division t​eam members.  Applications will be judged based on the nominator's description of why a person is an outstanding postdoc mentor, including how the faculty mentor has supported, encouraged, and promoted your professional and personal development at the School.  Please contact the OPA at postdocs@iupui.edu or anfowl@iu.edu with any additional questions.
